Sneak Peek at a Work in Progress

I have been working on so many projects lately,
and none are finished,
but I want to share a sneak peek at one of the big ones....

When our son moved out, he took a lot of his old bedroom furnishings with him.
I wasn't sorry to see much of it go, only him, and then, only a little.
It was time and he's doing well on his own.
We just sort of closed the door to his room and ignored it for a while.

Enough time had passed
and it seemed ok to reclaim the room from boyhood shrine
and give it guest room status.
Lots of patching and painting and sticker removal have been done
and the room is now habitable again.

I have some gorgeous twin beds that were in my Mom's house
and I thought they would be perfect in this room.

And then I found the perfect mirrors to hang above the beds...

Here's a close up of one of the mirrors-

I'm still working on window treatments and accessories,
but here's a peek at what's been done so far...

Comfy Pottery Barn duvet covers and shams
and nice new sheets and blankets.
I may have to try it out myself...
They say you should try sleeping in your guest room
to make sure it's got all the necessities and niceties your guest will need.
I'm game.

  1. Hi Erin,
I look forward to seeing the official Before & After photos of Brian's room.
I'm sure he'll approve and enjoy on his periodic visits. Nice that you could incorporate elements from your mom's home into yours. That always feels great. My mom has a piano from her Great Aunt and other heirlooms over 100 years old. Nice to mix new and old.
    Take care,
    Mark

  3. Love those beds and the mirrors! We did the same thing when our son moved out -- just closed the door until we summoned up the courage to attack the remaining disasters. It's still a work-in-progress, but at least habitable by now!

  4. I love the peek into the makeover of your sons room. The beds and mirrow hold such charm . . . memories too.. And ahhhhh, looking at your moms house, decorating and treasures was for me, like going back home to visit my mom. I hope your mom is able to still remember her lovely daughter . . . if only just a tiny little bit. Sounds like jewelry might be a connection . . .
